Equally devoted to the arts of photography and poetry, Tom Jones, an honors graduate of Harvard College, Columbia University School of Law, and George Mason University credits the late photographer Harold Feinstein, under whose influence he shot black & white film for the first ten years (1967-1977), as his greatest teacher.

After twenty-two years teaching, writing and living on the Navajo Nation in northern Arizona, in June 2014 Tom Jones retired from teaching and has since committed himself to the arts of photography and poetry with the creation of his TOM JONES PHOTOGRAPHY website – tomjonesphoto.net; his photography has been recognized in international calls through selection by 20 different jurors for 25 different fine art photography exhibitions/competitions; as well as publication of his tenth collection of poems.  BEYOND EXISTENTIALISM (2017), foothillspublishing.com (juxtaposing a choice of his published poems with selections of his black and white photographs), which was recognized by International Photography Awards (IPA) for 3rd Place in the world in the category of Professional Book, Fine Art (2017).

Jones said “With a background in modern art and studies in art history, I see beauty and truth in a wide range of styles, from the abstract expressionism of Jackson Pollack’s drip paintings to the color paintings of Ellsworth Kelly and Rothko to the surrealism of Magritte and Max Ernst. I seek striking images that engage the viewer. I am an eclectic rebel, drawn to the experimental, free spirit. I believe that we each have our own vision, and the photographer’s search is to find and reveal that vision through his or her images. I go my own way.”
