Rani Arbo brings acoustic swing to Thrasher

Rani Arbo brings acoustic swing to Thrasher

Rani Arbo, the lead vocalist, fiddler, and founder of the group daisy mayhem, will bring her signature acoustic swing style of Americana, folk, funk and old-time music to the stage of the historic Thrasher Opera House, downtown Green Lake, on May 31, 2003.  The evening’s performance is sponsored in part by the Heidel House of Green Lake.

Arbo, who’s musical life began with cello lessons and Latin chant at age 8, has since played in church and concert choirs, early music ensembles, a honkytonk band, a
Balkan rock band, a Capella groups, and spent 12 years leading her own acoustic string band, Salamander Crossing, on the U.S. and Canadian circuit.

After the breakup of her quirky string band, Arbo regrouped with former member, Andrew Kinsey to form daisy mayhem.  Kinsey, who plays upright bass for the band and doubles as a multi-instrumentalist on banjo, whistle and ukulele, also brings his smooth baritone to the band’s seamless four-part harmonies.  With the addition of guitarist, Anand Nayak, and master percussionist, Scott Kessel, daisy mayhem has now created a style that is best described by the Boston Globe as “ neo-old-timey with cosmopolitan splashes of contemporary pop and jazz.”

Arbo’s latest CD, Cocktail Swing, offers a tribute to swing, country, ukulele records, and pop standards.  The music is energizing and full of surprises.  “The guitar-, mandolin-, banjo- and ukulele-picking are impeccable; the fiddling is sweet; and Arbo’s voice is equally capable of whisper-singing sultry jazz tunes and belting out twangier Appalachian numbers.

The Arbo concert marks the beginning of new summer concert hours for Thrasher.  All concerts from May 31 to Sept 6 (does not include the Green Lake Festival of Music series) will begin at 8 pm.  This will allow concertgoers to spend a little extra time on the lake, linger a little bit longer over dinner at one of the fine dining establishments in Green Lake, take an early evening walk, or perhaps just wind down before enjoying one of the many wonderful concerts we have in store this summer!

Tickets for the 8:00 p.m. performance of Rani Arbo and daisy mayhem cost $15 and can now be purchased ON-LINE at our NEW WEBSITE at They are also available at the Thrasher office (located next to the Opera House), Knowledge Emporium, Green Lake State Bank, Ripon Drug, Bull Moose Mercantile, or by calling (920) 294-4279.
