Over 50 children present original musical adaptation of THE WIZ OF THE WEST.
This Saturday, June 27 at the historic Thrasher Opera House in Green Lake, follow your friends from the Land of Oz through the wild, wild west of yesteryear – but with a twist…or should we say a twister? Join the Missoula Children’s Theatre and over 50 local students as they perform in the original musical production of THE WIZ OF THE WEST.
The local cast will feature colorful characters such as Dotty, Mooch, the Scared Crow, Tinhorn, Lionel, and Hawknose Halley - mean and nasty, the worst of the lot. Also featured will be Dr. Ozzy, the wonderful wizard of pioneer potions and tall-tale tonics. Our four friends tangle with Top Dog’s bunch of bad barkin’, back bitin’ bow-wows including Mad Dog and Bad Dog. To complete the ensemble will be the adorable Coyotes, Munch Kins, Buzzards and Tarantulas.
THE WIZ OF THE WEST will be presented at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. Tickets for this concert are only $12 adults and $8 students and available at the Thrasher office, Horicon Bank (Green Lake); Pick N’ Save, Ripon Drug (Ripon); Twister (Princeton) or by calling (920) 294-4279. Online tickets available at www.thrasheroperahouse.com.
The program is supported in part by grants from the Wisconsin Arts Board with funds from the State of Wisconsin and the National Endowment for the Arts, the Herman Schultz Fund of the Green Lake County/Ripon Community Foundation, and the Webster Foundation. Additional sponsorship is provided by the Horicon Bank of Green Lake and the 1st National Bank of Green Lake. A special thanks to Tom & Mary Avery who will be providing housing for the two directors, Jessica Fritz, piano accompanist for the play, and the Thrasher volunteers who will be providing home-cooked meals for the non-stop travelling directors.
A down-home, country telling of every cowpoke’s favorite yarn…Aw, Auntie Em, there’s no place like home on the range. THE WIZ OF THE WEST–-a fairy tale with a twang.
