The Long and Short of Jazz

The Long and Short of Jazz, Marshall Vente and Eldee Young, will visit Green Lake and perform on Friday, August 5, 2005 at 7:30 pm at Thrasher Opera House.  Vente and Young, along with percussionist Isi Perez, invite all to come and enjoy an evening of fun, swinging jazz.


Marshall has been vacationing in Green Lake with family and friends every summer since 1979.  The sails of his boat “Summer Jazz Too” have become a very familiar site on the lake every year and recognized by many. 


A graduate of UW-Oshkosh where was a student of Paul Smoker, Marshall was a National Endowment for the Arts Apprentice with Gil Evans and David Matthews and a NEA composer.  Now considered to be one of Chicago's top jazz pianists, he is also arranger, composer, producer and radio host of Jazz Tropicale, heard every Sunday at 10 pm on 90.9 fm WDCB, and streamed worldwide via  Since, he has performed throughout the world.


Musician and vocalist, Eldee Young, founding member of the Ramsey Lewis Trio and Young-Holt Unlimited, has appeared and performed on major movie productions and radio, as well as local and network television, including Fred Astaire's last television special.


Among his many concert performances include those at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Apollo Theatre (New York), Newport Jazz Festival, Montreux Jazz Festival  (Switzerland), and many other theatres and colleges all over the U.S. and Canada, with such notables as Nancy Wilson, Oscar Brown Jr., T-Bone Walker,  Dizzy Gillespie, Dinah Washington and many others.


Young has a collection of recognition awards; among them include those received from -Downbeat, Record World and Playboy Magazines.  He also has Gold records (more than one million sold) for "The in Crowd" and "Hang on Sloopy" with the Ramsey Lewis Trio and "Soulful Strut" and "Wack Wack" with Young-Holt Unlimited.
