Carlos del Junco appearing on Valentine's Day

World champion harmonica virtuoso, CARLOS DEL JUNCO, will be performing on the evening of Valentine’s Day - Saturday, February 14, 7:30 p.m. at the historic Thrasher Opera House in Green Lake.

Carlos del Junco plays the harmonica like nobody else in the world. Born in Havana, Cuba, Carlos is a pioneer of the 10-hole diatonic harmonica. What separates del Junco from other artists is the use of a technique known as "overblowing," which allows him to play chromatically, that is to say, in all 12 keys, on a standard-issue harmonica designed to play in just two or three. The technique, not common in the blues idiom, was originated by jazz virtuoso, Howard Levy, who in turn taught del Junco. He plays his instrument with the same intensity as Eric Clapton treats an electric guitar or Billy Joel plays the piano”, Ward Holland, The Chronicle Journal.

Throughout his concert and festival performances with his four piece band, you may hear an eclectic palette of jazz, blues, swing, Latin, funky New Orleans and the occasional African, hip-hop, and ska melody. As a singer, you will hear a voice almost as unique as his harp playing as Carlos offers fresh renditions of classic blues and jazz standards.

Carlos is touring in support of the critically acclaimed award-winning BIG BOY cd, and his current CD, up and at 'em, produced by Grammy winner Joe Chicarrelli.  This latest offering matches Carlos' musical dexterity to a stellar lineup of world-class talent.
