Ragtime Pianist Returns to Thrasher!

World-class ragtimist, Bob Milne, will be bringing his famous ragtime, boogie-woogie, blues, gospel and Dixieland piano back to the historic Thrasher Opera House, in beautiful downtown Green Lake, on Saturday, August 16 at 8:00 p.m.  Thanks to the generous sponsorship of Two Chez, Bill and Janet Scott, Irvin & Co., and the Heidel House, Milne will perform many old favorite hymns and styles of the ragtime era.

As a prelude to this wonderful performance by Mr. Jazz, Pizzaz & Razz-Ma-Tazz, Thrasher has arranged a special Concert/Dinner package with Two Chez restaurant, conveniently located across the street from the Opera House.  Two Chez’s delicious dinner choices will begin with a first-course selection of Asparagus Salad, Truffle Vinaigrette and Bleu Cheese.  Main Entrée choices will be Grilled Pork Medallions, Summer Squash, Garlic Mashed Potatoes, and Mushroom Marsala or Seared Halibut, Sautéed Bok Choy, and Sesame Steamed Black Mussels.  Warm Carrot Cake with Caramel and Lingonberries will top off this scrumptious dinner, just in time to wander across the street to the Thrasher Opera House for a little ragtime, boogie-woogie and blues.

Bob Milne performs for theatre and performing arts center audiences from coast to coast as a full-time touring artist.  An historian as well as spectacular pianist, Milne demonstrates the many different styles of the ragtime era and includes interesting stories about the development of this truly American playing style.

Milne began his musical career as a highly respected French horn player in symphonies such as the Rochester Philharmonic and the Baltimore Symphony.  During his off hours, he discovered his knack for playing the piano and entertaining his listeners and ended up spending the next 30 years playing in saloons, supper clubs, dance halls, theatres and bandshells.

Today, Milne is well known as an outstanding concert pianist specializing in the colorful piano-playing styles of the late 19th/early 20th century that “show off” the piano to its fullest, bringing to life its limitless capabilities of expression, its wide range of voices and endless possibilities for creating many kinds of melodies harmonies and rhythms all at once. In recent newspaper reviews, he was referred to as “the finest ragtime/boogie-woogie pianist on this planet” and “one of the greatest ragtime pianists ever”.
