Award Winning Blues Artist Coming to Thrasher
Otis Taylor, winner of the 2002 W.C. Handy Blues Award for Best New Artist of the Year, will perform at Thrasher Opera House on Saturday, February 1 at 7:30 p.m.
Fresh off a performance at the Kennedy Center, Taylor will bring to the concert a style of music that offers a mix of Mississippi blues, African rhythms, folk soul and a touch of rock, with lyrics that are meaningful, deep in thought, passionate and poetic.
Taylor's current album, Respect the Dead, has received high praise throughout the music industry. "Taylor is a rare talent, and this is easily one of the most important blues albums of 2002," says Billboard Magazine. The film industry has taken notice of Taylorís talent as well, with Billy Bob Thornton using four of Otis Taylor's songs in his new film, "The Badge."
