Celtic superstar, Karan Casey, to perform at Thrasher
Karan Casey will be performing at the historic Thrasher Opera House on March 8, 2003 at 7:30 p.m. in beautiful downtown Green Lake. As a prelude to this wonderful evening of traditional Irish music, Thrasher has arranged a special Concert/Dinner package with Grey Rock restaurant at the Heidel House. For the exceptional price of only $38, concertgoers will be able to choose any three-course dinner on the menu at Grey Rock, and later attend a concert by one of Ireland’s top female vocalists. In addition to offering dinner at this exceptional value, the Heidel House will also be generously donating 10% of their proceeds back to the Opera House to help sponsor the concert.
Karan Casey is one of the most instantly recognizable, alluring and original voices in all of world music. Her new recording, Distant Shore, is a collection of potent and beautiful Irish and contemporary ballads. The subtle and sensitive instrumentation and arrangements on all of the CD’s tracks illuminate Casey’s voice and illustrate just what she can do with her magical instrument. The former longtime lead vocalist with the Irish super group Solas exhibits the grace, pacing and richness of an old soul. The Wall Street Journal says Karan Casey is “one of the true glories in Irish music today,” while The Associated Press says Casey has “…a voice so beautiful, it’s almost impossible to avoid falling under her spell.” Distant Shore is a follow up to Casey’s well-received The Winds Begin to Sing (Shanachie, 2001).
Karan Casey has been the recipient of many awards over the years, most recently being nominated in 2002 for a Grammy in the category of “Best International Folk Album.” Her song “Who Put the Blood” from The Winds Begin to Sing album was also nominated by the BBC Radio/Folk Roots Awards in the “Best Traditional Track” category.
Now, on March 8 come listen to the voice that The Calgary Herald describes as “Angelic, Haunting and Spellbinding” as Karan Casey performs many of those award-winning songs and much more in the intimate setting of the historic Thrasher Opera House.
