Folk/Blues troubadours, Eric Bibb & Michael Jerome Browne, coming to Thrasher

Eric Bibb, internationally known as a master interpreter of smooth, subtle, soulful and sophisticated blues, will be joined by Michael Jerome Browne, "...arguably the finest acoustic blues artist in this country”Globe and Mail (Toronto), at the historic Thrasher Opera House at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, May 8 at 7:30 p.m.

Already enjoying success in Europe, Grammy nominee Eric Bibb is becoming a familiar face – and voice – in the U.S.  Nominated for nine W.C. Handy Blues Music Awards and winner of the Best Newcomer title in the British Blues Awards, Bibb has been appropriately described as "discreetly awesome” and "a total original.” As his popularity escalates, earlier comparisons to legendary greats Ry Cooder and Taj Mahal are being replaced by quotes that speak to Bibb’s ability to "use standard blues ingredients to cook up something all his own.”

Bibb’s rich and sensitive vocals and lyrics provide a perfect balance to his fine finger picking technique. Purveying a beautifully realized and deftly accomplished soulful folk-blues, Bibb has no problem blending various genres effortlessly, melding a traditional rootsy American style with a subtle, contemporary sensibility.A four-decade career, 35 albums, countless radio and television shows and non-stop touring have given Eric Bibb a world view that’s tempered by curiosity and compassion, and the ability to see himself in other peoples’ shoes.

Michael Jerome Browne, Canadian Folk Music Awards Solo Artist of the Year 2012 & 2008, Maple Blues Acoustic Artist Award Winner, Kerrville (Texas) New Folk Finalist, Three time Juno Award Nominee in both the roots/traditional and blues categories. Michael is a multi-instrumentalist, a songwriter, and a living encyclopedia of American Roots music.

Whether he's gliding a slide across his national guitar, pulling his bow over the fiddle strings to play a lively Cajun waltz or flailing away on his gourd banjo, Michael's passion and virtuosity always shine through. In the true tradition of folk music, his performances inspire us to see the interconnections between the many cultures and influences that gave birth to American Roots Music. Gospel, Blues, Old-Time, Country, Soul and Cajun, expect to hear all of this and more from a performer who's been called a street-smart archivist and an absolute treasure.

"...one of the finest musicians who is well versed in so many interrelated genres... Any chance I get to hear Michael and then play with him is a chance I'll leap at." —-Eric Bibb, interview with Holger Petersen (Talking Music)
