Randy Sabien's Fiddlehead Band to play at Thrasher
Randy Sabien is a bluesy, rockin', swingin', funky, jazz violinist and music educator described by NPR's Jazz Profiles as "the past, present, and future of jazz violin." With an intensely rhythmic, vibrant and inventive style, he has captivated audiences worldwide, playing with scores of bands and musicians of all stripes. For his performance at the historic Thrasher Opera House in Green Lake on Saturday, August 9 at 7:30 p.m., Randy will be bringing his very own Fiddlehead Band.
The special performance, a collaboration between Thrasher and the Green Lake Festival of Music, will showcase some of the best music from the 80-year history of the "Texas Fiddle Band" in the unique style of Randy's Fiddlehead Band.
The tradition of the "Texas Fiddle Band" began in 1930s with the now legendary Bob Wills. Wills created a band that featured him and others on fiddles in conjunction with just about any other kind of instrument. The band played almost any style of music: blues, country, polka, ragtime, swing, and of course: fiddle tunes. It is this tradition that Sabien has tapped into with his Fiddlehead Band. Featuring three fiddles, drums, bass, guitar, and a keyboard rhythm section, Randy Sabien's Fiddlehead Band follows Wills tradition and will play just about any style of music that makes people dance.
Make sure to reserve your seat for a night of entertainment with Randy Sabien's Fiddlehead Band. This performance is supported in part by grants from the Wisconsin Arts Board with funds from the State of Wisconsin, and the National Endowment for the Arts and the Oshkosh Area Community Foundation.
