PINOCCHIO performance at Thrasher this Saturday
The charming tale of PINOCCHIO, the wooden puppet who longed to become a real, live boy, comes to life this Saturday, January 25, 3 p.m. & 7 p.m. at the historic Thrasher Opera House in Green Lake when the Missoula Children's Theatre (MCT) and more than 50 local students perform an original, musical adaptation of this classic tale. The play will feature the characters Pinocchio, the Blue Fairy, Jiminy Cricket, the villainous Fox and the mischievous Cat. Also featured will be Puppets, Pinocchio's tough friend, Candlewick, Candlewick's Crew, the Urchins, the School Kids, and the masterfully crafted Toys.
Creativity, social skills, goal achievement, communication skills and self-esteem are all characteristics that are attained through the participation in this unique, educational project. MCT's mission is the development of lifeskills in children through participation in the performing arts.
This wonderful opportunity for all local children could not be made possible without the help of some very special supporters who understand the importance of the arts in our children’s lives. This year’s MCT program is supported in part by grants from the Wisconsin Arts Board with funds from the State of Wisconsin and the National Endowment for the Arts. Additional sponsorship is generously provided by the Green Lake Bank, Kiwanis of Green Lake, Green Lake County/Ripon Community Foundation and the Francis and Ruth Oberreich Foundation.
Last, but not least, a special thank you the Bay View Motel for supplying weeklong accommodations for the two tour directors, Marianne Reininger who will be providing the lively and lighthearted piano music that accompanies all Missoula performances, and Thrasher volunteers who will be providing home-cooked meals every night of the week for the road-weary tour directors.
Tickets prices for this special production are $12 adults and $8 children and can be purchased online at www.thrasheroperahouse.com, the Thrasher Office, Knowledge Emporium & Green Lake Bank (Green Lake); Pick ‘n Save & Ripon Drug (Ripon); Twister (Princeton), or by calling the office at 920-294-4279.
