Tight harmonies, universal humor, and unbelievable a cappella energy = The Alley Cats
Join us on Saturday, December 7 at 3 p.m. or 7:30 p.m. for the America's premier doo-wop group, The Alley Cats when they return to the historic Thrasher Opera House for their ever-popular holiday show titled "Jingle Bell Rock, A Harmoniously Hysterical Holiday Hit." The Cats' crisp harmonies, sidesplitting humor and incredible a cappella energy have made the foursome a much-anticipated tradition at Thrasher.
The Alley Cats began at Fullerton College in California, and landed their first professional gig at Disneyland's "Blast to the Past." Soon after, they appeared on TV, radio shows, corporate events, Performing Arts Centers, fairs, festivals, schools, and even a USO show aboard the John C. Stennis aircraft carrier welcoming home the troops from Iraq. Currently, the Cats are the opening act for Jay Leno in Las Vegas.
In addition to their fun live performances, Arts Education has become an increasingly important part of The Alley Cats' mission. They present interactive, fun, and informative assemblies - The Do-Re-Mi's of Doo Wop - teaching students about elements of music and performance through one of America's own musical art forms: Doo-Wop. Since the Fall of 2001, the group has performed at thousands of schools throughout the United States. They've recently gained recognition for their inclusion in the latest Glencoe/McGraw-Hill "Introducing Art" textbook. Their music lesson is also featured in the Los Angeles Music Center's Artsource study guide, designed for classroom learning.
"The reason we keep bringing The Alley Cats back is because it's hard to find performers who can appeal to audiences across multiple generations as well as they do. The Cats' make it a fun evening for all ages and have been warmly received, year after year. I think their humorous stage presence is as popular as their music!" said Roby Irvin, program director.
This program is supported in part by a grant from the Alliant Energy Foundation, the Wisconsin Arts Board with funds from the State of Wisconsin and the National Endowment for the Arts, and the Oshkosh Area Community Foundation. Accommodations provided by The Heidel House Resort & Spa.
