Willy Porter makes annual appearance at Thrasher
For the seventh year in a row, the phenomenal guitarist and passionate songwriter Willy Porter returns to the historic Thrasher Opera House in downtown Green Lake to perform for an eager crowd of fans. Porter's much-anticipated concert on Saturday, February 18 at 7:30 p.m. will undoubtedly be another sellout, just as it has been since his first visit in 2006.
A guitarist whose songs are heavily rooted in folk music, Porter colors his tunes with splashes of bluegrass, blues, and funk. His shows are energetic and loose, with lots of improvisational moments. "Every time Willy appears, it's a completely different show, which makes it fresh and exciting for new, as well as returning fans," says Roby Irvin, Program Director.
World-renowned guitarist Greg Koch had this to say about Porter’s latest disc "How to Rob A Bank": “you get the same feeling listening to it as you do from one of his solo gigs...that you are in the presence of greatness…” Each song is a fresh crosspollination of styles, genres and musical forms. Frets Magazine called Porter "a genre-defying maverick."
