Celebrated Irish duo Karan Casey & John Doyle coming to Thrasher!
Karan Casey and John Doyle, founding members of the Irish super group Solas, have been touring the country in celebration of their critically acclaimed collaborative album, Exile's Return (2010). The historic Thrasher Opera House, in downtown Green Lake, is included in that tour, and we warmly welcome you to join us for a wonderful evening of traditional Irish music on Saturday, October 15 at 7:30 p.m. A legend in her own right, Karan Casey has long been one of the most innovative provocative and imitated voices in Irish traditional and folk music. Her career has spanned twenty years. From the early days as a jazz performer in Georges bistro in Dublin, to her heady days in New York with the band Solas, to her now blossoming solo career, Karan has sold over half a million albums. Since embarking on her solo career, Karan has released five albums, an album for children and numerous contributions to other artists' projects and has toured constantly throughout North America, Europe and Japan. Karan has won several awards, such as “Best Folk Album” and “Best Folk Female” from Irish Music Magazine and been nominated for the BBC Folk Awards and the Danish Grammys. Along with appearance at numerous festivals around the world, she has made many TV and radio appearances on both sides of the Atlantic and has been a frequent guest on Garrison Keillor’s ‘A Prairie Home Companion'. John Doyle is one of the most influential and important musicians in Irish music today. As a guitarist, he is unparalleled for his harmonic and rhythmic genius. His instrumental prowess contributed to a 2010 Grammy nomination for "Best Traditional World Music" album for his collaboration with fiddler Liz Carroll on Double Play. When not at home in Asheville, NC, Doyle tours globally. In addition to his work as a solo artist, Doyle also performs regularly with other musicians and recently served as bandleader for the Joan Baez band. He has appeared on nationally syndicated radio shows including Prairie Home Companion and Mountain Stage. This project is supported by grants from the Wisconsin Arts Board with funds from the State of Wisconsin and the National Endowment for the Arts and the Oshkosh Area Community Foundation. Accommodations provided by the Heidel House Resort & Spa.
