King Arthur's Quest presented on Saturday
Join King Arthur, Guinevere, Lancelot and a host of others in a musical wonderland this Saturday, June 25 at 3 p.m. & 7 p.m. when the Missoula Children’s Theatre and more than 50 local students present an original musical adaptation of KING ARTHUR’S QUEST at the historic Thrasher Opera House in downtown Green Lake.
King Arthur, of legend and song, strode across Medieval England with courage and confidence…or did he? What if the troubles of his kingdom threatened to overwhelm him? Watch the Damsels in Distress sound the warning of trouble. Witness the Lady of the Lake as she produces the sword in the stone. Hide with the Camelotians when the Ghost of Arthur’s Father visits the castle. See the Giant tower over the questing knights. Cheer for the King when he makes friends with the terrible dragon. Listen in as Morgan le Fey and Mordred propose a better plan. Join the Knights and Squires of the Round Table as they try to do the right thing. Hope for the best outcome as your favorite characters of Camelot - Arthur, Guinevere, Merlin, Taleisin, The Raven and Lancelot wrestle with the challenges faced by their people.
Missoula Children’s Theatre (MCT), the nation's largest touring children’s theatre, has been touring extensively for nearly 30 years now from Montana to Japan, and will visit over 900 communities this year with 29 teams of Tour Actor/Directors. A tour team arrived in Green Lake on Monday, June 20, with a set, lights, costumes, props and make-up, everything it takes to put on a play . . . except the cast. They held a very successful open audition and cast 50-60 local children in grades 1-12 from Green Lake, Ripon, Princeton, Berlin, and Markesan, along with all other surrounding communities, to perform in the production. Then the real work began!
The children have been rehearsing all week and on Saturday, June 25, at a 3 p.m. afternoon matinee and 7 p.m. evening performance, their hard work will finally be recognized as they present a full production of the musical play, KING ARTHUR'S QUEST. All MCT shows are original adaptations of classic children’s stories and fairytales . . . a twist on the classic stories that you know and love. Creativity, social skills, goal achievement, communication skills and self-esteem are all characteristics that are attained through the participation in this unique, educational project. MCT’s mission is the development of life skills in children through participation in the performing arts.
This wonderful opportunity for all local children could not be made possible without the help of some very special supporters who understand the importance of the arts in our children’s lives. This year’s MCT summer workshop program is supported in part by grants from the Wisconsin Arts Board with funds from the State of Wisconsin and the National Endowment for the Arts. Additional sponsorship is provided by the Green Lake Bank, Wallenfangs of Green Lake, and the Kiwanis Club of Green Lake.
Last but not least, a special thank you Heather McQuitty for offering weeklong accommodations for the two tour directors, Marianne Reininger, who will be providing the lively and lighthearted piano music that accompanies all Missoula performances, and Thrasher volunteers who will be providing home-cooked meals every night of the week for the road-weary tour directors.
Tickets prices for this special production are $12 adults and $8 children and can be purchased online at www.thrasheroperahouse.com, the Thrasher Office, Knowledge Emporium, & Green Lake Bank (Green Lake); Pick ‘n Save & Ripon Drug (Ripon); Twister (Princeton), or by calling the office at 920-294-4279.
