Ragtime Pianist Returns to Green Lake
America’s top ragtime/boogie-woogie pianist Bob Milne bring ragtime, boogie-woogie, blues, gospel and Dixieland piano to Thrasher’s Opera House in Green Lake in its second annual Ragtime Week-end, June 16-18, 2000.
Bob Milne performs for theater and performing arts center audiences from coast to coast as a full-time touring artist. In recent newspaper reviews, he was referred to as “the finest ragtime/boogie-woogie pianist on this planet” and “one of the greatest ragtime pianists ever.” He was recently honored by the U.S. Navy when he was asked by the captain to perform aboard the USS George Washington aircraft carrier in June of 1999.
A favorite among ragtime fans, classical music lovers and general audiences alike, Mr. Milne demonstrates the many different and often pianistically showy styles of the ragtime era, a period in American history which spanned the mid 1800’s through the 1920’s. His stories and commentaries about the music and the musicians who created it are entertaining and enlightening, and his piano playing has been referred to as “spectacular” and “amazing.”
All events will take place at Thrasher’s Opera House, located at 506 Mill St. in Green Lake. The Ragtime Weekend at Thrasher’s Opera House features Bob Milne in four events: Friday, June 16, 7pm “Silent Movie Classics” with live piano accompaniment; Saturday afternoon free seminar, June 17, 2 pm “Ragtime & the Working Musician”; Saturday evening concert, June 17, 7 pm “An Evening of Ragtime”; Sunday afternoon concert, June 18, 1:30 pm “Gospel, Ragtime & the Blues”.
