Blue Canvas Orchestra-Unplugged; Big Top Chautauqua's house band, coming to Thrasher

The Blue Canvas Orchestra (BCO) is the heart and soul of Big Top Chautauqua, Wisconsin's premiere summer-long music festival.  They’ll bring their dynamic, unplugged live performance to the historic Thrasher Opera House on Saturday, May 9 at 7:30 p.m.  The BCO present a well-seasoned blend of bluegrass, folk and blues and are more than ready for prime time after appearing on the Big Top stage for 19 years.

Singer Warren Nelson and the gang combine professional musicianship with humor and a spirited rapport with live audiences. In addition to Nelson, the BCO is an amazing sextet comprised of cello, dobro, mandolin, fiddle, bass and drums, and represents the instrumental side of the festival's house band

This is a band whose members draw from a very deep and diverse well of musical experience. From conservatory training and orchestral experience to multiple appearances on the Grand Ole Opry, from touring with Zydeco music's iconic first lady "Queen Ida," to National Endowment for the Arts' supported work for history-based musical endeavors, the BCO has entertained hundreds of live audiences over the past two decades.

They’ll bring all this to their Thrasher performance, and more. You'll hear burnin' Newgrass, swing-style Jazz, classical influences, Celtic influences and some of the great vocal tunes that their fans have come to expect. And they’ll celebrate the wild-side of Wisconsin waters and landscapes, capturing the essence of living in the Midwest through original music, stories, and songs about the people and the land.

This special performance of the Blue Canvas Orchestra -Unplugged, is supported in part by a grant from the Wisconsin Arts Board with funds from the State of Wisconsin and the National Endowment for the Arts. Tickets are $18 adults and $10 students and available at the Thrasher office, Knowledge Emporium, Green Lake Bank (Green Lake); Pick N’ Save, Ripon Drug (Ripon); Twister (Princeton) or by calling the office at (920) 294-4279.  Online tickets available at www.thrasheroperahouse.com.
