The Downtowners; A musical treat for dancing feet!
Put your dancing shoes on and head over to Thrasher Opera House in beautiful downtown Green Lake, where The Downtowners will perform an evening of lively, danceable music from 7 to 10 p.m. on Saturday, May 26, Memorial weekend.
The Downtowners, a 5-piece variety band with over 20 years of experience, specialize in a wide range of musical styles including: Big Band & Swing, 50’s – 60’s Rock, Jazz & Blues, Polka and Old time music, Country, Latin, Ballroom, and Ethnic music.
The band uses thirteen instruments and five vocalists to create the best musical combination for each song. Saxophones, trumpets, clarinet, guitar, and an accordion are added to the keyboards, bass and drums for the different musical flavors. Three guys & two gals present ever-changing vocal leads & backups.
Bob, along with his wife Jane, leads the group. A life-long musician, he began playing professionally at age 15, and was soon leading a band of high school friends by the name of "The BAND-its". He is an experienced saxophonist, clarinetist, and also plays accordion and tuba. He can’t decide which style of music he loves most, which is why his band plays such a wide variety.
Janie is in many ways the real leader of the band. She plays lead trumpet (yes that’s right… a gal playing trumpet!), and she’s also the lead female vocalist. She began performing in her brother’s band at age 13, playing drums, then trumpet, then singing vocals. Her talents appear on dozens of recordings by the Don Peachey Orchestra.
Greg is the drummer who keeps the perfect beat to each song. His playing career began with work in several area bands. He joined The Downtowners several years ago and has earned a reputation as one of the best drummers in the territory.
Dan is a master at the keyboards. He keeps two keyboards going, producing just the right comps, fill-ins, and choruses for the horns and vocals.
Annie, the newest member of the group, is quite a veteran on keyboard bass. Her musical bass lines provide the band with the perfect musical foundation to provide that “musical treat for dancing feet".
There will be ample room available for kicking up your heals - so put those dancing shoes on and head over to Thrasher for some easy-to-dance-to and equally fun-to-listen-to music this Memorial weekend.
Tickets for this event are only $8 each and can be purchased at the Thrasher Office, Knowledge Emporium, Green Lake State Bank (Green Lake); Ripon Drug, Pick ‘N Save (Ripon); Twister (Princeton), Berlin Chamber or by calling 920-294-4279. You can also order online at www.thrashersoperahouse.com.
