Extraordinary young pianist, Elizabeth Joy Roe, to perform

Maybe by now you’ve seen the posters and wondered about the beautiful young pianist who’s coming to town. Can someone really be that gorgeous and that talented and as smart as they say? The answer, dear fellow mortals, is yes. Elizabeth Joy Roe is the complete package. But you don’t have to take my word for it. She’s coming to the historic Thrasher Opera House for a solo concert on Thursday evening, June 15, and you can see for yourself.

Ms. Roe is one of those rare child prodigies who has more than lived up to the music world’s great expectations. Having won her first international competition at age 13 (over her competitors up to ten years older than she was at the time), Elizabeth Joy Roe has gone on in the decade since to win many more prizes, scholarships, and much critical acclaim.

Ms. Roe has performed in Korea, Europe and throughout the United States, at such venues as Seoul Art Center in Korea; the Salle Cortot of the École Normale in Paris; Lincoln Center, Steinway Hall and New York University in New York; the Fourth World Piano Pedagogy Conference in St. Louis; Symphony Center in Chicago; and the Interlochen Arts Academy in Interlochen, Michigan. Her performances have been broadcast on Chicago's classical music stations. Ms. Roe has performed as a soloist with the Chicago Symphony II, Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, Milwaukee Chamber Orchestra, Lubbock Symphony Orchestra, and Chicago’s Ars Viva Symphony Orchestra, a group dedicated to bringing classical music to underserved communities.

She also performs with her chamber ensemble, the Xanadu Trio, and is a prizewinner with that group as well. At this point it will surprise no one still reading that Ms. Roe managed to travel, win competitions, be a National Merit finalist, an A.P. (Advanced Placement – the really tough classes) Scholar, and an Illinois State Scholar while she was in high school. She has since attained both her Bachelor and Master of Music degrees in piano performance from Julliard. People this talented aren’t easy to find. Thank goodness, she’s found us.
