Kelly Joe Phelps & Natalia Zukerman Double-Bill Concert

The Thrasher Opera House of Green Lake will be hosting the double-billed concert of Kelly Joe Phelps and Natalia Zukerman on March 25, at 7:30 p.m. The night will be a sensation as the two artists combine folk, blues and jazz into one seamless show.

Phelps lives and breathes the blues of his Delta upbringing. He doesn’t treat his music as a blueprint that must be followed meticulously. Every time he plays, Phelps puts a different spin on his music. “As life moves constantly forward, so should music, if it's to contain vitality and genuine emotion respectfully relayed in an honest fashion,” said Phelps. He combines his smoky baritone voice and lap-style acoustic slide guitar with dazzling intensity.

Phelps has released seven critically acclaimed albums in nine years. "Phelps' songwriting mirrors the subtlety that distinguishes his guitar work. His songs are also infused with poignancy, passion and spirituality," said The Washington Post.

Natalia Zukerman comes from a family of classical musicians, but at an early age, she threw down her violin and picked up a guitar. She’s been melding folk, jazz and blues ever since to create her own style for her cross-country tours.

A love affair with the guitar led her to experiment with the electric, acoustic, slide, lap steel, the banjo and even a brief foray into traditional Indian technique. She’s honed her craft so that her nimble fingers are capable of picking upward of thirty notes per measure!

Zukerman has released three albums, her latest of which, Only One, gives the listener a taste of what her live shows are really like. “Zukerman allows listeners to come to her at their own pace with her roomy arrangements, prose-style phrasing and the come-hither sultriness of her slinky, earthy vocals,” said Performing Songwriter.

Tickets to experience this wonderful night of acoustic music, sponsored by Heidel House and Ripon Community Printers, are $16 and available at the Thrasher office, Knowledge Emporium, Green Lake State Bank (Green Lake); Ripon Drug, Pick ‘N Save (Ripon); Twister (Princeton); and Berlin Chamber of Commerce or by calling (920)294-4279.  Online tickets available at www.thrasheroperahouse.com.
