The Buryat State Academic Opera and Ballet
Thrasher’s Opera House is proud to present The Buryat State Academic Opera and Ballet on Saturday, October 14. The Buryat State Academic Opera and Ballet, from Siberia, Russia, will be making its premier visit to the United States in October 2000.
The first act, entitled “Shaman Dreams”, includes drumming, throat singing and native instruments and dress and depicts one of the most famous Buryat legends of Muu-Shubun, a young shaman woman, her lover and the shaman spirits. The second part of the program is filled with favorite European arias and Buryat ballads sung in their native language. The Buryat State Academic Opera and Ballet troop call The Buryat State Opera Theatre their home base. The theatre was founded in 1939 and is still the only opera house in the Far East and Eastern Siberia. During its 60 years, the Theatre has staged over 200 operas and ballets. Ballets and operas by Tchaikovsky, Verdi, Puccini, Bizet, Puni and others, along with beautiful pieces by Buryat composers, are among the repertoire of these talented performers.
