Patty Larkin’s chilling musical ability at Thrasher Opera House
Patty Larkin’s brilliant musical ability is often compared to that of legend Bonnie Raitt. This Milwaukee born, Boston-based singer/songwriter/guitarist is headed to Thrasher Opera House on Friday, April 8 at 7:30 PM, and the show is sure to be unforgettable.
The Washington Post raves that Patty Larkin “draws on both her folk-music roots and modern pop-enthusiasm while allowing literary lyrics to make themselves felt.” VH-1 describes Larkin’s voice as “…the tour guide on a musical and emotional journey…” and her songs as, “…snapshots in an old photo album where every picture tells a story.” Patty Larkin’s music has been recorded by the likes of Cher and chanteuse Holly Cole. Her work is also gaining prevalence in the film industry, with music appearing in such films as “Evolution,” starring Julianne Moore and David Duchovny, as well as “Sliding Doors” starring Gwyneth Paltrow and “Random Hearts” starring Harrison Ford.
Patty Larkin grew up in Milwaukee in a family where music created generational bonds. “My Grandmothers both played piano and when we would get together we would sing. I remember being small and standing underneath the keyboard while someone was playing barrelhouse blues and I felt like I had just seen God; it was a great sound to me,” she explains. After attending the University of Oregon where she earned a degree in English Literature, Larkin headed east to the Berklee College of Music in Boston and honed her unique writing style. Patty Larkin’s musical evolution began at that point, and she hasn’t looked back since.
Larkin’s latest, and 10th album, RED=LUCK was written in a shack on a beach in Cape Cod. During her time at the shack, she wrote in explosive bursts, explaining, “I didn’t edit, I just went forth singing, and this is what came out.” After recording her songs with guest artists like Jeff Lang and Willy Porter, RED=LUCK has won nothing but praise in reviews across the country.
Don’t miss the opportunity to experience Patty Larkin and her amazing musical hybrid of Celtic, Middle Eastern, R&B, folk, country, and blues.
