"Gritty Chicago blues and rarefied classical chamber music might not seem like a match made in heaven — until you’ve heard Corky Siegel bring the two together … a crowning achievement.” – Chicago Tribune. Billed as "a stellar night of extraordinary musical fireworks," the evening will also serve to celebrate multiple anniversaries, including the 40th for Alligator Records - the Chicago-based label for which Siegel and Chamber Blues record, the 30th of the (anti)establishment of Chamber Blues - Corky's revolutionary blues-classical fusion concept, the 70th of Corky's ongoing love affair with Planet Earth, and the celebration of a highly-anticipated new Chamber Blues CD titled DIFFERENT VOICES featuring all the renowned guests who have joined the stellar group.
Siegel has arranged for for a program that melds his reverent re-imagining of the blues for which he's become so well known over the course of a career that has spanned five decades (and counting) with disparate, yet compatible iconoclastic talents of the original "20 Feet From Stardom vocalist," Marcella Detroit.
Marcella Detroit is a musical force whose spell-binding vocals have inspired recordings, tours, and collaborations with the biggest names in music including: Elton John video
, Aretha Franklin, Eric Clapton (with whom she co-wrote mega-hits like "Lay Down Sally") Carlos Santana, Bob Seger, and Leon Russell to mention a few. There is no vocal challenge to which Marcella cannot conquer. A recent season of popular British TV’s "Pop Star to Opera Star" showcased her five octave vocal range where she nailed the most difficult repertoire of arias from the opera catalog. Video
Howard Levy is a multi-instrumentalist and best known as founding member and harp player with Bela Fleck and the Flecktones. Howard is recorded on over 300 recordings, and known as the "guru of the over-blow technique" on diatonic harmonica creating any key with one harmonica. He is quite simply a musician without limits and has received multiple Grammy Awards.
Corky Siegel is, of course, the award-winning composer who, at a very young age, learned his craft at the feet of such legendary first generation bluesmen as Muddy Waters and Howlin' Wolf and as a part of Siegel-Schwall Band. He is credited with moving the blues from smokey clubs onto the classical concert stage and obliterating musical categorization in the process.
